Friendly-Helpers Discord-Bot

Welcome Center

First impressions matter when someone joins a server. Welcome new members with your own message, point them towards a good place to start and give your community a personal voice. Friendly Helpers fills in names and server information automatically.

This guide is in English. The bot, Control Panel and original screenshots currently use German. Commands and button names below match the interface.

Address new members directly and show them what they can look forward to.

Your voice, your message

A quiet welcome or an enthusiastic hello: you choose the wording.

What you can do

Four useful placeholders

{user} mentions the new member, {username} shows their username, {server} the server name and {member_count} the member count.

A dedicated welcome channel

Choose an existing text channel and decide whether the new member may be mentioned.

Text with a preview

Your welcome message can contain up to 1,500 characters. The Welcome Center focuses on text welcome messages.

Get started

A few deliberate steps take you from an idea to a feature your members can use.

  1. Open the Welcome Center

Open the centre on your Discord server or select Welcome in the Control Panel.

    /welcome einrichten
  2. Choose a channel and message

Select the target channel and write your welcome. Use only the placeholders you need.

  3. Check the preview and test

Review the text and, if useful, send a labelled test message. Nobody needs to join the server for this.

  4. Enable welcome messages

When the wording and channel are right, deliberately enable welcome messages.

Where to manage it

The permissions you need

Bot permissions are already prepared

Our invite link already includes the appropriate bot permissions. Accept the suggested selection when inviting the bot and keep those bot-role permissions unchanged afterwards. You do not need to configure them one by one.

Channel access: Private or restricted channels must still allow the bot role the access it needs in your chosen channel.

  • To configure this feature, you need Administrator or Manage Server on your Discord server.
  • The bot does not need Administrator. Its effective permissions in the selected channel are what matters.
  • In the welcome channel, the bot needs View Channel and Send Messages.

Good to know

Do I need to invite someone for the test?

No. The test action posts a labelled example welcome in the chosen channel. It does not enable automatic welcome messages.

How do I use {user}?

Place {user} where you want the new member to appear. The mention option also controls whether the message may actually notify that member.
