Update 15.9: Pacific Front, a new ship rotation and Black Friday

Update 15.9 launches on EU on October 8 with Pacific Front and the Halloween Event Pass. It also brings matchmaker changes, a much larger ship rotation and new Armory content from October 15. Black Friday follows on October 29. Join Discord by October 28 for the Discord Drop. Blue Archive also returns with Commanders and seven ships.

The full update article for World of Warships 15.9 contains information beyond the earlier previews. Pacific Front now has firm dates, the ship rotation is much larger than initially announced, and the matchmaker is intended to create incomplete teams much less often from Tier VI upwards.

Halloween, new Armory offers and Black Friday are also on the calendar. The Blue Archive collaboration is returning too. If you are mainly interested in free content, keep an eye on Community Drops as well. Among all the bundles and Tokens are a few dates that do not require Doubloons.

EU launch on October 8

EU server maintenance for Update 15.9 takes place on October 8, 2026, from 04:00 to 07:00 CEST. Pacific Front and the Halloween Event Pass begin with the update.

The action button in the official update article also lets players claim one day of Warships Premium Account. According to the announcement, it will be available until the next update article is published. No specific end date has therefore been given yet. If you want the day, use the button in good time.

Pacific Front runs until December 3

Pacific Front now has a confirmed schedule: the event runs from October 8 to December 3, 2026.

The basic idea remains fleet planning across several battles. An Operation consists of multiple stages and fights. Damage to deployed units carries over within the same Operation. Each unit has three hit point segments. Clearing an entire Operation earns a bonus for a “Perfekter Abschluss” (perfect completion).

Progress Tokens take players along the reward track to the American Tier VI Premium destroyer Monaghan ⚓. We can now fit the event into our calendars. A little planning is likely to pay off anyway in a mode where the fleet takes its damage into the next battle.

Halloween Event Pass: free and paid progression tracks

The Halloween Event Pass also starts on October 8. The free progression track includes Jack-o’-Lantern containers and permanent camouflages, among other rewards.

The second track costs 2,500 Doubloons. Its rewards include Warspite ⚓, Commander Max Strauss and more permanent camouflages.

If you only want the free content, you can focus on the first track. For the second, it is worth looking at the entire reward package: its appeal also depends on what is already in your Port.

Black Friday from October 29: four new Black ships with a destruction counter

Black Friday begins on October 29. The new arrivals are Incheon B, Victoria B, Hornet B and Flandre B.

Four dark warships on a choppy sea against a golden sunset.

For the first time, these four ships will receive their own enemy destruction counter, tracked separately for Random, Ranked and Co-op Battles. Wargaming explicitly describes it as an experimental feature. That does not yet tell us whether it will develop into a more widely available system.

Alaska B ⚓, Jean Bart B ⚓, Asashio B ⚓ and Massachusetts B ⚓ are also returning.

There is an important restriction on the “Black-Friday-Geschwader” missions: as a rule, you need the standard version of the relevant ship and must obtain its Black version during the 2026 event. Black ships acquired earlier do not qualify. The explicitly stated exception is Marlborough B ⚓.

If you have owned a Black ship for some time, read this year's mission conditions before expecting extra rewards.

Blue Archive returns with Commanders and seven ships

The Blue Archive collaboration is also returning to our WoWS Port. Familiar Commanders, each with their own voiceover, are back, alongside these seven ships:

Anyone still missing parts of the collaboration collection will get another opportunity to bring the familiar ships and Commanders into Port.

Community Drops: remember two Discord dates

On October 4, Wargaming also published the schedule for Community Drops in Update 15.9. The promotions cover Halloween, Black Friday and Czechoslovak Independence Day. The announcement also lists Twitch Drops and YouTube Membership.

Two dates are confirmed for the “Discord Drop: Black Friday Edition”:

  • Join the official World of Warships Discord by October 28.
  • The Discord Drop mission for Update 15.9 is intended to become available on October 30.

This refers to the official WoWS Discord. If you want the mission, join in good time and check back on October 30.

The information available does not fully establish individual containers, required watch times or exact mission rewards. We are therefore sticking to the confirmed dates and channels here.

Matchmaker: fewer small teams from Tier VI upwards

One of the most practically important changes concerns the matchmaker. From Tier VI upwards, battles with fewer than twelve players per team are intended to become much less common.

Wargaming reports that its tests reduced incomplete teams to just 0.04 percent of all battles per day. That is a developer test result. How the change affects the live EU environment will have to become clear after the update.

Average waiting times are intended to remain largely unchanged. Aircraft carriers, however, may face an additional ten to fifteen seconds.

For most players, that would be a pleasantly unspectacular trade: more full battles, without regularly spending much longer in the queue.

New Armory content from October 15

On October 15, the Italian Tier IX cruiser La Spezia ⚓ arrives in the Armory for 43,000 Research Points.

The ship combines eight 203 mm guns, SAP and improved AP with an alternative Burst Fire mode. Anyone budgeting Research Points now has a specific price and date. The announcement alone does not provide a reliable assessment of its battle performance.

The “Uncharted Seas” Armory event also starts on October 15. The two Tier VIII ships Datong ⚓ and Philips van Almonde ⚓ are available through Seafarer Tokens or Admiral bundles.

There are also sequential bundles with a Tier VII Premium Ship container as the final reward. Some of the required Tokens can be earned through combat missions. Check the event conditions to see how far they will take you along your preferred acquisition route.

Ship rotation: 21 departures and 29 arrivals

Our earlier overview named Velos ⚓, Constellation ⚓ and Tone ⚓. The full update article now shows that the rotation involves considerably more ships.

With 15.9, 21 ships in total will temporarily leave the Armory or Premium Shop. Additional departures named include Indomitable ⚓, Warspite, Arizona ⚓, Hood ⚓, Béarn ⚓, Mutsu ⚓, Florida ⚓, Monaghan, Weimar ⚓, Hampshire ⚓ and Sibir ⚓.

In return, 29 ships will be added to the offer or return. They include Scharnhorst ⚓, Kidd ⚓, Atlanta ⚓, Belfast ’43 ⚓, Ark Royal ⚓, Saipan ⚓, Loyang ⚓, Minegumo ⚓, Incheon ⚓, Seal ⚓ and Monmouth ⚓. Aberdeen ⚓ and Marcantonio Colonna ⚓ enter the rotation for the first time.

The ships named are examples from the larger rotation. The key point remains their temporary departure from those offers. Monaghan can simultaneously be earned through Pacific Front, while Warspite is part of the paid Halloween progression track. Leaving the shop does not automatically make a ship unobtainable throughout the update.

Holiday Convoy and the Dockyard: watch resources and remaining time

The third chapter of Holiday Convoy is beginning. Tokens are still available through daily battles or by exchanging Steel, Research Points and Coal. New in 15.9 is another bundle containing 3,000 Doubloons in exchange for Holiday Convoy Tokens.

Four more ships, including New Jersey ⚓, will not arrive until Update 15.11. That matters for planning: not everything announced for the Convoy will already be available in 15.9.

The Marlborough B Dockyard is continuing as well. Of its 28 shipbuilding phases, 23 can be earned through play. Five must be purchased. An individual phase costs 1,400 Doubloons. Starter packs offer five phases for 4,500 Doubloons or ten phases for 8,500 Doubloons.

The remaining mission time is particularly important: combat missions run only during the first three weeks of Update 15.9. After that, there is one more week to complete construction with Doubloons. Anyone relying on the earnable phases should distinguish between those two periods.

Tech Tree, balance and smaller gameplay changes

Early Access for Pan-American destroyers ends. The full branch, from Almirante Villar ⚓ to 20 de Julio ⚓, becomes normally researchable.

Gustav den Store ⚓ receives a buff: maximum AP damage rises from 12,100 to 12,850. Ballistics and penetration also receive slight improvements.

Honolulu, Akagi, Ōta and Rodina are added to the game for testing with 15.9. The previously introduced ships are therefore joining the actual test pool. This is not yet a regular release.

The update also includes several changes that may be noticeable in battle:

  • The display for Concentrated AA Fire is improved.
  • Asymmetric Battles become a little harder at Tier VIII and a little easier at Tier IX.
  • Switching between automatic and manual secondary control becomes more responsive.
  • Several bugs involving Commander talents, submarine buffs and alternative firing modes are fixed.

These are not major event headlines. More responsive controls and talents that work properly are welcome in everyday play nonetheless.

Conclusion

Update 15.9 offers more substance than the earlier previews, particularly on dates, acquisition routes and everyday improvements. Pacific Front starts on October 8, new Armory content follows on October 15 and Black Friday on October 29. Join Discord by October 28 at the latest for the Discord Drop. Collectors may also be interested in Blue Archive's return with its seven ships.

The larger ship rotation and the Black Friday mission conditions deserve a careful look. Meanwhile, the matchmaker could make battles more enjoyable without a single new container. Perhaps the best reward in this update will simply be a full team.
