43,000 Research Points are not something to spend casually. The Italian Tier IX Premium cruiser La Spezia ⚓ therefore deserves a closer look at its artillery concept: SAP, improved AP and two salvos fired in quick succession with Burst Fire sound appealing. Afterwards, however, the cruiser has to bridge a considerably longer reload.
We already covered the price and date in our Update 15.9 overview. This article focuses on the more detailed technical information in the community profile and the playstyle it suggests. The data comes from the supplied research dated October 13, 2026, at 11:25 CEST. This is not yet an assessment based on regular live battles.
In the Armory from October 15
La Spezia is intended to become available on the EU server on October 15, 2026, at 04:00 CEST, for 43,000 Research Points. The date and price have been officially announced; they are not new discoveries from the current ship profile.
WoWS Gamer Blog lists a version of the profile dated October 12. However, the article already existed in July 2026. A full changelog is unavailable. The parameters below therefore describe the profile captured during the research, not a proven buff or nerf on October 12. They remain provisional.
Eight 203 mm guns: range and ammunition choice
The main battery consists of four twin turrets with eight 203 mm guns in total. The community profile lists these key figures:
| Characteristic | Profile value |
|---|---|
| Gun range | 18.8 km |
| Normal reload | 14 seconds |
| Maximum AP damage | 5,150 |
| Maximum SAP damage | 5,950 |
| Muzzle velocity | 1,200 m/s |
| Salvos in Burst Fire | 2 |
| Reload after Burst Fire | 35 seconds |
| Hit points | 44,800 |
| Base detectability range | 15 km |
La Spezia combines SAP with improved AP ammunition. The quoted maximum damage figures are individual profile values, not a promise of how much damage a salvo will actually deal in battle.
Our assessment: its range and artillery concept suggest looking for favorable firing opportunities at medium to longer ranges and deliberately matching ammunition to the target. The figures alone do not yet show how reliably the cruiser deals damage under real battle conditions, however.
Burst Fire: two salvos, then a 35-second pause
According to the profile, the main battery reloads in 14 seconds in normal mode. The alternative mode allows two salvos in quick succession, followed by a 35-second reload.
That offers a way to exploit a favorable opening with two salvos. The trade-off is the long pause afterwards. Activate the mode simply because it is available, and your guns may still be empty when the next good target appears.
Our assessment: Burst Fire could be particularly interesting when an opponent only briefly presents a good target. Before triggering it, check your own position as well: can La Spezia survive the pause that follows, or will it remain under pressure? The mode offers a damage spike, but does not replace planning your next move.
Detectability and hit points demand good positioning
The 15-kilometer base detectability range stands out. Together with 44,800 hit points, it is a good reason to choose your position carefully. Gun range alone does not make an exposed position safe.
There are also two quadruple torpedo launchers with a 13.5-kilometer range. They provide another way to pressure opponents at a distance. Based on the available information, however, La Spezia's main selling point remains its artillery and alternative firing mode.
The captured community profile is not consistently clear about consumables. A final loadout cannot reliably be established from it. We therefore base this assessment on the supported gun parameters, detectability and hit points.
Who should take a closer look?
Players who enjoy Italian SAP ammunition and choose their firing opportunities carefully may find La Spezia interesting. The interaction between normal fire and Burst Fire requires a willingness to accept a longer pause in exchange for a short damage spike.
A provisional profile cannot give a final answer on whether that justifies 43,000 Research Points. With an artillery mechanic like this, confirmed ship parameters and early practical experience after the offer launches are more useful than a premature purchase recommendation.
Conclusion
La Spezia has an interesting artillery concept whose appeal and risks are closely connected: two salvos at the right moment, followed by a 35-second pause. Range and ammunition choice offer opportunities, while detectability and hit points demand thoughtful positioning.
For anyone saving for the cruiser, the profile provides a useful guide. We will wait for regular availability and practical experience before reaching a final verdict. A short ceasefire can be sensible before a purchase too.
