Running a server also means consistently closing access routes that are no longer needed. A graphical remote access route has therefore been removed from the Friendly Helpers VPS because it was no longer required for ongoing operation. The adjustment was deliberately limited to this one access route.
Unneeded access closed
This remote access route was not required for further work on the project. Its access permission was therefore removed. Components used exclusively for that access were also disabled.
There is no longer an unused access route at this point. No new public features were introduced, and no existing project areas were reworked. The change concerned only the removal of a remote-control option that was no longer needed.
Ongoing operation stayed unchanged
The restriction had no effect on the publicly used services. The website and Discord bot stayed active. Ongoing data collection and the existing community and protection services were also unchanged by the measure.
The security adjustment was therefore clearly bounded: an unnecessary access route was closed while required services kept running. Bot and website users saw no change in availability.
A small measure with a clear purpose
Security is not only about adding new protective features. It is equally important to regularly assess whether existing access routes are still needed. When their purpose disappears, their access permission can go too.
That is exactly the principle behind this VPS change. Rather than keeping the unused remote access route available, its permission and associated components were disabled. The rest of Friendly Helpers' operation stayed unchanged and continued without interruption.
