The “Ranked Ships” overview analyses which ships are used in Ranked play. As the data grew, it became increasingly important not to repeat that analysis across the entire dataset for every individual page request. The page has therefore been switched to precomputed Ranked meta data.
Analysis before the page request
Before this change, the view required heavy live aggregations. The page request had to analyse the available raw Ranked data directly to determine which results to display. That expensive step no longer happens during the request.
Instead, the page accesses meta data that has already been prepared. The values needed for the overview are therefore available before a visitor opens Ranked Ships. The page's purpose stays the same; what has changed is when the extensive analysis takes place.
Automatic updates are retained
The precomputed data continues to be maintained automatically. Ranked meta data is updated after the Ranked synchronisations. New data therefore flows into the prepared analysis without the page having to process all the raw data again when opened.
This separation combines two goals: the overview stays current, and the page request is relieved of the heavy calculation. Visitors do not need to take any additional steps.
More stable as the data continues to grow
The immediate effect is a much faster Ranked Ships page. At the same time, the display becomes more stable because the response no longer depends on completing a large live analysis at the moment of the request.
This preparation is particularly important as Ranked data continues to grow. More raw data does not automatically mean more work for every individual request. The page reads the finished Ranked meta data and can concentrate on quickly displaying results that have already been calculated.
