HMS Anthony, an A-class destroyer, participated in the evacuation of British forces from Dunkirk and carried out patrol and convoy escort duties. She formed part of the escort contingent for battlecruiser Hood and battleship Prince of Wales as they tracked the German battleship Bismarck, but she detached to refuel at Iceland and missed the Battle of the Denmark Strait as a result. The destroyer escorted Arctic and Maltese convoys. She also provided covering fire for the landings in Madagascar, North Africa, and Sicily.
